Beyond
Distributed Authoring
Eye Media has defied the traditional law of Website ownership by
developing WebInterprise, a Web content management system, which
gives companies complete ownership and control of their online systems
with huge benefits.
With WebInterprise, Website development is
fast and cost-effective and the ongoing cost is minimal compared
with traditionally built sites as all maintenance and updating can
be done by existing non-technical staff. A huge volume of content
can be reviewed and updated by a number of people within the organisation
and the technology will do the rest for them.
WebInterprise
technology is revolutionary for the following reasons:
- It allows documents on a Website to be published through many
communication delivery channels, for example Internet, Intranet,
Extranet, fax gateways and handheld devices
- Users can add an unlimited number of Web pages at no extra cost.
With a non-'WebInterprise' Website, the total creation cost is calculated
on the number of Web pages on the site.
- It can personalise content automatically, so that when a Web page
is updated or changed, the entire look and feel of that document
changes according to the requirements/profiles of the user or site
to which it is published.
- It creates automatic processes for the creation, review and approval
of each page. This means that the author specifies the process and
- WebInterprise takes over the rest of the process – ensuring
that each page is reviewed and approved appropriately before it
is posted – and keeps the author informed at every stage
- It allows clients to easily combine their online systems with
existing IT systems. Site development is fast – Eye Media
produced a 1500 page site in less than four days and an Intranet
and Internet site in 11 days.
Architecture:
The WebInterprise Web Publishing environment provides the ultimate
flexibility in organization-wide Web publishing management. Multiple
document databases or vertical applications are managed through
a sophisticated 'Broker' database to multiple 'Directory Databases'
that represent Intranet, Extranet and Internet Sites. This single
environment manages any number of Web Sites, plus other communication
'gateways' such as PalmPilot, PDA, SMS, and fax gateways.
The multilayer architecture separates design, from publishing, from
content. The result is the seamless repurposing of content for any
communication gateway and facilitates the deployment of WebInterprise
across diverse, geographically disparate organisations. Almost any
combination of approval and review workflow cycles can be created
and applied to document types. Better still, these workflows can
be created and changed by business people, without recourse to IT
resources.
Online
Document Publishing for multiple Web Sites:
Staff can type and layout new information, copy and paste from other
applications, create document and application links, attach files,
and import text/graphics/data from Windows desktop applications
such as word processors or spreadsheets in their creation of content.
On saving and approval of the document, the system immediately publishes
the content, places it in context, creates or amends any navigation
buttons and makes it 'live' on the Internet or Intranet Site.
Access
Controls:
The WebInterprise system provides the ability to nominate staff
as document 'creators/editors', 'reviewers and 'approvers/publishers'.
Only when the nominated approver level approves a document, is it
published to the Site.
People can also specify which documents are 'live' or 'offline'
to the Web Site. Staff can also access documents published to the
system, from the Notes client for participation in the publishing
workflow, or via the browser for Intranet consumption.
Management
Views & Audit Trail:
Simple to use, categorised views display content documents sorted
in a variety of ways to facilitate the easy locating of documents.
Each document carries with it a complete editing and approval history,
providing an audit trail showing the date and person involved in
the creation, editing, approval and publishing process.
Dynamic
Navigation Engine:
WebInterprise eliminates the need to source expertise to create,
edit or remove navigation buttons as content is changed on the site.
Eye Media's Dynamic Navigation automatically creates new navigation
graphics and places them in context on the site. The necessary links
are created as people create and change content on the site.
WebInterprise
Background:
For over 3 years, Eye Media has pioneered Lotus Domino Web publishing
systems for over 50 clients and projects. We developed what is reported
to be the first commercial Domino Web Site in the southern hemisphere,
even prior to the Gold Release of Domino 1.0.
In 1997 Eye Media developed what was then
the largest distributed authoring Web Site in Australia, the Victorian
Government 'Business Channel' which recently reached over one quarter
of a million Web pages.
Today, Eye Media has taken the Web publishing potential of Notes
Domino one giant step forward with WebInterprise. |
